LOS ANGELES, Calif., April 21, 2020 – Local real estate investment and development firm CGI Strategies is donating to the nonprofit organization CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort).
The nonprofit, founded by A-list actor Sean Penn, has provided disaster relief in Haiti and New Orleans, and is now working to increase testing for the coronavirus in Los Angeles. To date, CORE has administered more than 20,000 COVID-19 tests, providing free drive-through testing for high-risk individuals at five locations in L.A. and free testing to first responders at one location in Malibu.
In addition to providing an initial lump sum as an unrestricted donation, CGI intends to continue giving to CORE through June 1, 2020.
“During these unprecedented times, we are grateful to be seeing residents sign leases, “ said Vice President of Operations and General Manager of CGI Strategies affiliate Bread & Salt Hospitality Luke Somerset. “In the spirit of paying it forward, we also will be matching security deposits at two of our properties—Villa Carlotta and 888 Hilgard—and donating those matching amounts to CORE.”
Said CGI Strategies Founder and CEO Gidi Cohen, “In communities—especially in times of crisis—your strengths may be someone else’s weaknesses and vice versa. We are fortunate to be able to share our strengths with our community by supporting CORE’s efforts here in L.A.”
